新兴企业 start-up company

7月26日，中国证监会按照原定计划开始受理创业板发行申请，这意味着备受关注的创业板朝着正式开启迈出了实质性的一步。截至7月26日下午5点，共有108家企业向创业板发起冲刺，递交了上市申请。

证监会表示首批在创业板上市的新兴企业预计将于10月末或11月初挂牌。

在上面的报道中，start-up company就是“新建公司”，也就是“刚起步的公司”，一般都是 in a phase of development and research for markets（处于发展和市场调查阶段），所以申请在GEM（Growth Enterprise Market，创业板市场——专门协助高成长的新兴创新公司特别是高科技公司筹资并进行资本运作的市场）上市时，需要有sponsor institutions/representatives（保荐机构/保荐人）推荐。

Start-up companies 都会遇到一些start-up problems（起动阶段问题）,，也需要一定的start-up costs（开始的花费/开办成本/筹备费用）。有时候，start-up也可做名词用，例如：It grew from a tiny start-up to a multimillion-dollar corporation. （那家公司从小小的新公司发展成身家数百万美元的大公司。）在例句中，start-up的用法等同于start-up company。此外，start-up还可以表示此类企业的“创业者”。
