Working outside of working hours


There are some jobs where you hope the workers are available 24 hours a day, or “on-call”. These jobs likely include doctors, ambulance drivers, police, and maybe a pizza delivery guy. For the rest of us, when we finish work, we finish work! America is very different than Asia, where many workers are expected to put in extra working time, even after work finishes for the day. Generally speaking, it’s more okay in North America to push back and say that you’re not available to work. That said, people working at entry-level jobs might not dare refuse any work at that point in their lives. When they get older, and a bit more comfortable, they’ll be less likely to say yes to whatever the boss asks them to do.

你就觉得有一些职业的人应该每天24小时上班，或者随叫随到。这些职业包括医生，急救车司机，警察或者是披萨外卖员。对于我们剩下的人来说，我们干完活了就下班了！美国和亚洲很不同，亚洲很多人都会加班，甚至在一天的工作结束之后。大体来说，在北美拒绝加班说不能再工作还情有可原。话虽如此，刚入门的人在那种时候也不敢拒绝。他们老一点以后，舒服一点以后，他们对于老板也不会那么言听计从。
