What is Digital Image Processing

Terms

• Image: An image is a 2-D function $f(x,y)$, x, and y are spatial coordinates; amplitude of $f$ at $(x,y)$ is called intensity or gray level of the image at $(x,y)$
• Picture: A visual representation or image painted, drawn, photographed, or otherwise rendered on a flat surface.
• Image VS Picture: ‘’ picture ‘’ is what you see, the ''image ‘’ is what you/device remember or store. In another way, Image emphasis the ‘‘data’’ but the picture emphasis the expression.
