Hallo every one, i'm a student of University Kassel in Germany. In March i've created a new project "FBX Conversion Utility" in SourceForge.net.
The project's goal is to develope a set of conversion tools, in order to translate FBX into other file formats like Cal3D, 3DSMAX, MAYA and etc. FBX is the file format of Alias MotionBuilder.It stores skeleton, mesh, animation, lights, camara in a single file. Alias supplys some plugins to convert other 3D file formats into FBX. But there are no conversion plugins for Cal3D and other open source file formats. Now the FBX SDK is supplied by Alias for free, i've decided to develope a set of conversion tool in open source.
Now i'm working on the first conversion tools named "FBX2CAL", in order to convert data from FBX to Cal3d. If you are interesting at it and you're a skilled programmer of C++, contact me at: dechaos@gmx.de. I'll glad to work with you.
FBX Conversion Utility is protected under GPL and LGPL. It means that, you can obtain the source code, and modify it as you will, or intergrate it into your (commerical) project for free, the only thing you need to take care is to save the information of the original author(s) in your project.
