 BEARING CAPACITY CALCULATION SHEET

A. Footings on Sandy Materials:

In the present case of foundation on sand materials, the calculation of bearing capacity on the basis of permissible settlement is the controlling approach. The formulas (Ref: “Foundation Analysis and Design” fifth edition by Joseph E. Bowles) used for calculation of allowable bearing pressure are as follows:

1. For Isolated / Strip Footings

The above equations A1 & A2 (Ref: “Foundation Analysis and Design” fifth edition by Joseph E. Bowles) shall be multiplied by 0.67 to get the bearing capacity values recommended by Meyerhof. In case of water table near or below to the proposed foundation level, the above equations shall be multiplied by water table correction factor (0.5)
