3.2 Piecewise Linear Interpolation
This is the perhaps the most intuitive form of
interpolation, even if you’re still not sure what all
the words mean.
Piecewise linear interpolation is simply connecting data
points by straight lines.
“Linear interpolation” means to use straight-line
interpolants.
We say it is “piecewise” interpolation because you
normally need different straight lines to connect
different pairs of points.
This is the default behaviour in Matlab’s plot
routine.
If the data points are sufficiently close together,
the jaggedness associated with piecewise linear
interpolation is not noticeable.
