【Technology047】Representation for Student of the Year in SJTU

——Find what you are good at and be good at it.

Every year, SJTU will select 10 students as the Students of the Year. I’m one of the 15 candidates this year. The Final representation was held on December 12th.

There were around 20 judges including teachers and reporters. They have the material for every candidate on their desk. For candidates, we have 5 minutes for representation. The judges might ask some questions. On average, one question for everyone.

The result comes out in the evening on the day. I’m one of the 5 guys who lost the competition. My rationality told me to accept the result for I could do nothing to change the result. But my emotions let me feel unfair. I want a reason why I failed.

Life is not like a mock exam. They are some real reasons but no one will tell you. You have to be insight enough to find out the cause deep inside. I can accept the temporary failure. But I cannot accept the possibility that I will lose for the same reason next time.

Surely, I can try to find some external cause. E.g. there are 2 candidates in my school, but the unspoken rules may be that at most 1 candidate can pass in each school. So I become the victim.

I don’t want to think in this way. The external cause is out of my control, so I don’t want to talk about it. It just like I believe in the possibility of destiny. But I don’t talk about it for I cannot control it.

For the internal reason, I attribute the reason to the truth that I haven’t done some really amazing things in one area. But the 10 winners have to some degree. Find one for myself, that’s what’s the most important for me between 2020 to 2026.
