【Technology026】Feeling During the Internship
Barack
——Open.
I begin my internship in WeChat, TIT Innovation Center, Guangzhou on 1st July. My internship would finish on someday from 1st September to 1st October.
Most people arrived at the company at around 10 a.m. and left at around 10 p.m. The break during the noon is from 12 a.m. to 2 p.m., and all the building close the light from 13 a.m. to 2 p.m. so that the stuff can have a sound environment to have a snap. During the weekend, there is almost no stuff. However, the air conditions are still working so you can still do what you like in the company. Moreover, there is disinfection for all the six buildings which belong to Tencent in the morning on Sunday.
The breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all free on weekdays — the breakfast servers from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. The lunch is from 12 a.m. to 2 p.m. The dinner is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
My mentor is the team leader of our 12-people team. The atmosphere is rather relaxing, where I can communicate with my mentor casually. He even asked me not to communicate with him by honorifics. Besides, he encourages me to put forward my own opinions.
I decide to choose a product manager in a large Internet company as my first job after I get my master degree in March 2020. So, I apply for the internship as a product manager in WeChat. Before I come here, I’m not very sure what I can do during my internship.
Now I know that the product manager in WeChat can be divided into three types: product-planning-oriented PM, product-marketing-oriented PM, and industry-product-oriented PM.
For a product-planning-oriented PM, he/she needs to write the PRD (Product requirement document) and work with the development team, designing team, and marketing team to design what a product looks like.
For a product-marketing-oriented PM, he/she needs to design many marketing activities to attract more users or customers so that the product can be used or sold to them.
As for an industry-product-oriented PM, he/she needs to communicate with enterprises from different industries to find out how we can cooperate so that our product can be used in their business and assist them in earning more profits.
So my team belongs to the WeChat Open Platform, and my occupation is an industry-product-oriented PM. However, what I prefer to do is working as a product-planning-oriented PM. On the one hand, my education background in the computer is my advantage when I cooperate with the development team. On the other hand, I can directly join the process of how we design a product.
For the past week, I read the four WeChat Open Class by Xiaolong Zhang from 2016 to 2019. I also make some study on the development process of Enterprise WeChat and DingDing. For the next week, I explore the possibility of how AR (Augmented Reality) can be applied in the mini program.
