Weathering happens when huge rock breaks into small pieces.
And this is because of two reasons.
The first one is because of water freezing.
For instance, if the raining gets into the crack of the rock.
And when the temperature drops at night.
The water in the crack will freeze.
And this expanding ice will push the crack to become bigger.
And eventually this huge rock will break off.
And the second cause of this weathering is because of plant growth.
Because of its roots.
For instance, there are trees growing in top of the rock
and when there are enough dirt.
Trees will start growing there.
And the extending roots will grow down into the crack of the rock in search of water and nutritions.
And when this happens again and again.
Huge rock will eventually break apart.
