Dee Dee…Don’t press that…(Bzzzz)….Button. Maybe it’s a phase but these days I’m obsessing over buttons. And for good cause. There are so many of them!!

I think I’m underestimating my obsession. I mean the amount of time I keep staring at a button on my screen after I’ve designed it, is nothing short of what how a mother looks at her new born.

But it’s not just about the aesthetics or the shape. When I look at buttons I can only imagine the countless hours of discussion and debates over their shape, color, size, font, text, across many software companies. I mean, think of it. It’s probably the only fundamental functionality of your website — to click a button and get the information or perform a certain action you want. But if anything’s come out of my latest addiction it’s this: There is no universal constant. No ‘one-way’ of getting it right. No Holy Grail. No blanket solution. No…well, you get the point.

Some of the most successful web based companies out there have all kinds of buttons and call to actions out there. We took some time off our schedules to go through our favorite websites, split open their call to actions and compare it to their peers.
