The Institute of Digital Media (IDM) focuses on high-efficiency compression and intelligent analysis of image and video, basic theory and innovative algorithms on visual learning, pattern recognition and the implementation of the corresponding chips and systems. Based on IDM, the National Engineering Laboratory for Video Technology (NELVT) is the first national engineering laboratory of Peking University. The AVS national standards led by NELVT have been widely used in HDTV and other fields. The IDM undertakes more than 50 national projects, such as 973 Programs, 863 Programs, Key Programs and Major Programs of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC).
