《奇幻森林》 中狼群宣言

the Law of the Jungle（森林法则）
This is the law of the jungle,

本法则是森林法则

As old and as true as the sky.

像上苍一般古老正确。

And the wolf that keeps it may prosper,

遵循的狼将繁荣昌盛，

But the wolf that breaks it will die.

违反的狼必招致灭绝。

Like the creeper that girdles the tree trunk,

似匍匐植物缠绕树干，

The law runneth over and back.

森林法则也左右不离。

For the strength of the pack is the wolf,

群体之力汇聚自孤狼，

And the strength of the wolf is the pack.

孤狼之力来源于群体。

注释

1. law of jungle：“丛林法则”。在现代英语中更多代表“弱肉强食”这样的残酷规则。
2. prosper：不及物动词，繁荣昌盛。如：The city prospered since the new policy was carried out. 自从新政推行后，城市繁荣了。
3. keep it…breaks it…：遵守它、背弃它，押韵对仗
4. creeper：匍匐植物，如爬山虎
5. girdle：及物动词，“围绕…”，“绕…而行”
6. runneth：古英语，相当于“runs（第三人称单数）”；runneth over and back指“（森林法则）一直管着你”
7. pack和wolf形成对照关系，pack指“一群（狼）”，wolf这里指“独狼”
