The Sundance Film Festival could be your breakout moment, since its mandate is to spotlight “innovations in storytelling found at the crossroads of film, art, performance, and emerging technologies.” Of special interest to the Unity community is the New Frontier exhibit, which identifies and celebrates independent artists by showcasing experimental films, AR/VR/MR experiences, media installations, multimedia performances, and panel discussions.

We were proud to be an official partner of the 2018 Sundance Film Festival. In fact, Unity creators made up more than 70% of New Frontier’s VR interactive experiences. At the event, we launched our Storytellers of Tomorrow Interview Series to inspire other artists to create their own experiences and to submit their work for the New Frontier exhibit.

You may register your film or XR project by going to www.sundance.org/submissions. If you have never used Withoutabox before, a new account will be created for you. If you already have a Withoutabox account, log in and select the project you wish to submit. Once you arrive at the Submission Details page, you will be directed to answer a number of anonymous demographics questions. Underneath that, in the Payment section, select “Yes” under “Do you have a waiver,” then select the “Promo Code or Full Fee Waiver” option and Unity in the “Who granted the waiver?” field. Then, enter “unity20%off” in the “Waiver Code” field. You may upload the film via Withoutabox’s Secure Online Screener system or insert your private Vimeo link directly into the application. Please email programming@sundance.org if you have any questions or issues with the application.
