Did you ever want to redact some text in your WordPress blog posts? Redaction is the term used for editing text by blacking out sensitive parts of it. In this article, we will show you how to redact text in WordPress showing the user that some text has been redacted but not giving up the text.

First thing you need to do is install and activate the Guerilla’s Redacted Text plugin. The plugin works out of the box, and there are not settings for you to configure.

Simply create a new post or edit an existing one. Delete the text you want to be redacted and replace it with this shortcode:

Now when you preview the post, you will notice blacked out space added to indicate redacted text.

The default size of the blacked out area is six character spaces. If you need a larger redacted text box, then you can use the shortcode like this:

Please note that, you will actually need to delete the text you want to hide. The purpose of this plugin is not to hide text, but to show that some text has been redacted.
