之前一直看himym里面Ted纠Robin关于literally和figuratively的错误。
然后昨天看了一个采访,底下的评论说:“但是他们这次真的用对了literally和figuratively”
- literally本意为“字面上的”
e.g. I am literally foaming at the mouth.
表示:this literally means the real foam is coming out of his or her mouth(真的有泡沫从我口里出来)
- figuratively本意为“比喻性的”
e.g. I am figuratively foaming at the mouth.
表示:we can infer that he or she is using the idiom foaming at the mouth, which means very angry, and that no mouth foam is actually present.(表示这个人非常的生气,而不是真的有泡沫从口里出来)
btw,这个在中文语境里倒是没有什么很大的模糊性,可能只是因为其他人乱用literally,所以让有一部分了解区别的人很生气吧。就像Ted Mosby : D
