微软加入OCP阵营 产品创新设计成云利器

提及云计算，更多依然围绕基础设施建设来展开推广，近日加利福尼亚州圣何塞市一条引人注目的消息也许解释了云计算是如何改变数据中心前景，软件巨头微软加入OCP阵营，首次分享支撑其庞大在线平台的服务器和机架设计，并与全球用户分享它们的创新。

日前，微软已经加入Open Compute Project（OCP阵营），将开放支撑其Bing、Windows Azure和Office 365云服务器的规格和设计。该计划已经在圣何塞市Open Compute Summit专题会议上讨论。

微软数据中心

微软、谷歌以及亚马逊长期以来一直对自己的数据中心严格保密，但加入到OCP阵营的IT领导者微软，为什么会做出开放服务器设计这样的举措呢？DataCenterKnowledge网站总编Rich Miller带来了详细解读。

为企业提供Azure Clouds服务

微软云服务器的设计和代码将分享给其他公司。更大的供应商将能够基于设计和代码构建硬件产品，进而将允许企业创建Windows Azure混合云在相同的硬件上运行，并在其本地数据中心和微软的云上运营。

Open Compute Project是由Facebook在2011年受到“开源软件”概念启发而创建的，为超大规模数据中心创建了“开放硬件”社区来建立商用系统。它带动了一个充满活力的开发社区的发展，目前重点已经延伸到网络设备。

微软现已经在让初级服务器和存储设计快速转变为商业产品的生态系统中获益。但是微软还希望将OCP扩展到管理软件上面。

云领域竞争利器：开放设计

微软加入Open Compute Project阵营反映了云服务领域竞争日益加剧，在这个领域中微软、谷歌和Rackspace都力图抢夺市场领导者AWS的市场份额，利用OCP硬件供应商灵活的生态系统，微软可以在云平台上加速创新并使之能与AWS竞争。

微软贡献给OCP阵营，将包括硬件规格、设计技术参数(CAD和Gerber文件)，为微软云服务设计的系统管理源代码，这些寄存在开源软件资源库GitHub上。微软通过开放源代码有效地在开放式计算中创建硬件跟踪，但设计也比初始OCP服务器路径略有不同。

12U机架设计：服务器和刀片存储

据资料了解，微软数据中心中主要服务器产品采用一个12U设计结构，可以容纳24个半宽的刀片产品，该产品可以是服务器或者是刀片存储。与OCP中Open Rack一样，电源和风扇已经从服务器转移到底盘。

微软也采用一个共享信号设计，所有电缆连接已经转移到机架的后面，允许系统管理员通过将刀片产品插入机架内的托盘，从而进行快速交换服务器和存储。最多达四个这样机架产品可以安装在一个超高的52U机柜中，实现一个单柜上部署96台服务器。微软云服务器进行有效优化，支持超过200个在线服务，并从游戏到Office 365提供平台支持。

为不同工作负载而设计

微软创建这个服务器的目标之一就是适应不同的工作负载，尽管该产品是一个超大规模设计，但它仍然能满足超大规模操作和各种工作负载的需求。加入到OCP阵营之后，通过开放计算社区能够用更好的方式来改善。

另外，这些服务器是针对Windows Server软件而设计和制造，以及为Windows Azure云平台提供需要的可用性、可伸缩性和效率特性。在传统企业服务器设计上做了显着的改进：服务器成本节约40%，电源效率提高15%，并且部署和服务时间减少50%。

然而，微软加入到OCP阵营不可避免的影响了其硬件合作伙伴。尽管与戴尔和惠普密切合作，但由于微软近年来在超大规模服务器市场面对以OCP为中心的ODM厂商竞争中表现并不理想，开放设计的产品模式或许是未来一个新机遇。
