What is a global positioning system?
The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a United States-owned facility that provides positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) services to users. The system consists of three parts: The space part, the control part and the user part.
The United States Air Force undertakes the development, maintenance and operation of the space and control components.
Space section
The Satellite space section includes a symbolic constellation of 24 operating satellites that can emit one-way signals to provide the location and time of the current GPS satellite.
Ground Control Section
The AF flight Control Officer Controls section includes worldwide monitoring stations, allowing satellites to operate in an appropriate orbit through instructions issued from time to time, while correcting satellite clocks. It also tracks GPS satellites, uploads updated navigation data, and maintains the healthy operation and alignment of satellite groups.
User Device Section
The receiver user is partly made up of GPS receivers, which receive signals from GPS satellites and use the information coming to calculate the user’s three-dimensional location and time.
Application of GPS
GPS Services
GPS satellites provide services to private and military users. Civil services are as free and uninterrupted for all users around the world.
Military services are open only to the U.S. military and allied forces, as well as to a number of approved government departments.
GPS Enhancement
System Icon has many different GPS enhancement systems and technologies that can be used to improve the capabilities of GPS systems to meet the needs of special users. These enhancements increase the availability, accuracy, and integrity of the signal, making it perform better than the basic GPS civilian service.
System performance Icon GPS’s outstanding performance over the past years has earned the trust of thousands of private users around the world. Its reliability has been evident in the past and will benefit users around the world for a long time to come.
The future of GPS
System modernization
Icon The United States is committed to a wide range of modern projects, including the use of second and third civilian signals for GPS satellites. The second civilian signal will increase the accuracy of civilian services and improve certain applications related to life safety. The third signal will further enhance the capacity of civilian services, the main purpose of which is to be used for life safety, such as aviation.
