How to check system information

How to check the bit supported by the system.

HP-UX:
            #getconf KERNEL_BITS
AIX:
           #prtconf
Linux:
           # file /usr/bin/sh

       or #getconf LONG_BIT
Solaris:
           #prtconf  -x 

      or  #getconf LONG_BIT

AIX administrative tool:             smit (smitty)
HP-UX administrative tool:      sam
Solaris administrative tool:     "cfgadm"

Typically, command  "file" displays the OS characters by check the executables on the platform.


Command "fuser" can be used to check which processes are using the file specified.
