LeetCode 860. Lemonade Change

Question Link

class Solution {
    public boolean lemonadeChange(int[] bills) {
        int five = 0, ten = 0, twenty = 0;
        for(int bill : bills){
            //
            if(bill == 5)
                five++;
            else if(bill == 10){
                ten++;
                five--;
            }
            else if(bill == 20){
                if(ten > 0){
                    ten--;
                    five--;
                }
                else
                    five -= 3;
            }
            if(five < 0 || ten < 0)
                return false;
        }
        return true;
    }
}

This question has three situations:

  • Bill is $5, receive directly
  • Bill is $10. Consume $5, receive $10
  • Bill is $20. Prioritize consuming $10 and $5. If $10 is not enough, you can consume three $5.

The third situation is the greedy strategy. Because $10 only can give change for $20. But $5 can give change for $10 and $20. So $5 is more almighty.
Partial Priority:Prioritize consuming $10 when meeting $20 to complete the change.
Global Priority:Complete the change of all bills.

LeetCode 406. Queue Reconstruction by Height

Question Link

class Solution {
    public int[][] reconstructQueue(int[][] people) {
        // Order by height desc. If the height is the same, the one with a smaller k stands in front
         Arrays.sort(people, (a, b) -> {
            if (a[0] == b[0]) return a[1] - b[1];
            return b[0] - a[0];
        });

        LinkedList<int[]> que = new LinkedList<>();
        for(int[] p : people){
            que.add(p[1], p); // add(index, element)
        }
        return que.toArray(new int[people.length][2]);
    }
}
  • Order by height desc. If the height is the same, the one with a smaller k stands in front
  • Use k as the index to insert nodes.

LeetCode 452. Minimum Number of Arrows to Burst Balloons

Question Link

class Solution {
    public int findMinArrowShots(int[][] points) {
        // Order by x start ASC
        Arrays.sort(points, (a, b) -> Integer.compare(a[0], b[0]));
        int count = 1;
        for(int i = 1; i < points.length; i++){
            if(points[i][0] > points[i-1][1]) // The two balloons are not next to each other
                count++;
            else // The two balloons are next to each other
                points[i][1] = Math.min(points[i][1], points[i-1][1]); // Update the minimum right border of overlaped balloons
        }

        return count;
    }
}
