Apache Impala (incubating) is a popular open-source distributed SQL query engine that provides high performance for large datasets stored in HDFS or Amazon S3 file systems. It has been widely used in enterprise data warehouses to process large volumes of data with low latency and high throughput. However, securing access to the database server is becoming increasingly critical as organizations adopt cloud computing. In this article, we will discuss how to secure an Apache Impala deployment on both standalone and clustered mode using authentication and authorization features available in Impala. The focus is not only on enabling user authentication but also ensuring that users have access to resources they are authorized to access within Impala.
