Equations
Entering Equations
List Form.
eq1 = [1 -1 2] %x-y=2
eq2 = [2 -3 1 1] %2x-3y+z=1
eq3 = [1 0 1 2] %x+z=2
Regular Form.
eq1 = 'x-3*y=2'
Elementary Operations on Equations
In order to apply elementary operations, the equations must be entered in the list form.
eq = k*eq %Multiplying an equation, eq, by a constant, k
eq2 = k*eq1 +eq2
temp=eq1; eq1=eq2; eq2=temp; %Interchanging two equations
Substituting Values of Unknowns
To substitute the value k of an unknown x in an equation eq
eq=subs(eq,'x',k)
Solving Equations
- In Order to solve equations, the equations must be entered in the regular form.
- The unknowns x, y, and m on the left-hand side must be written in alphabetical numerical order.
- If the number of equations is fewer than the number of unknowns then virtual equations, such as eq='0=0', must be introduced in order to make the number of equations at least equal to the number of unknowns.
