For many years, the only Chinese food you could find in America was either from Guangdong province or Sichuan province. However, Sichuan is not the way you will see the word spelled. Rather, signs would say “Szechuan”, which nobody knows how to pronounce. Often, a Chinese restaurant would serve both styles of food, as well as more Western food like hamburgers.
很长一段时间里在美国唯一可以看到的两种中国菜,就是粤菜和川菜。但是川菜却不是“Sichuan”菜,它被写成了“Szechuan”,没有人知道究竟应该怎样发音。当然很多情况下,中国餐馆里,这两种菜是同时供应的,甚至还有的餐馆,还会同时出售西餐,比如汉堡等。
These days however, more and more Chinese from different parts of China are immigrating to Western countries, and they are bringing their local foods with them. Now in the big cities it’s much easier to find all different kinds of Chinese food, both inside Chinatown and out. Since not as many Chinese people move to smaller towns and cities, however, if you go there you will still likely see the old Cantonese and Szechuan restaurants.
最近由于越来越多的中国人移民到了美国,他们也带来大量当地菜。现在在美国大城市中,不管是在唐人街之内还是以外,你都能找到各种各样的中国菜馆。但是因为中国人很少去小城镇,所以小城镇的菜馆,还是以老式的粤菜和川菜为主。
