Project Charter is a document which provides an initial description of the project as it is being initiated, including such key information as:
- Why it is being initiated
- Objective
- High-Level scope
- Project approach
- Estimated timing
- Initial risks
- Initial assumptions
- Initial Timeline
- Summary of expected costs(one time & on going cost)
- Benefits
Key Point: Project charters serve as a reference of authority for the future of the project.

2. Project Management Circle

Tip:: We often spend too much time on PLAN and DO and not enough time on CHECK and ACT
Key Point: In the plan box we need to identify how we are going to check, otherwise we will not be able to interpret the results effectively.

3. Project Gating
Project gating is a series of activities and procedures intended to provide control and supervision over the project and its performance against planned goals and objectives. This process uses analysis as the major tool for assessing project performance and measuring achievements at any given stage throughout the project lifecycle.

The gating Process helps:
- management determine whether their project is on time and budget
- determine whether to proceed to next milestones or deliverables.
- assess quality of project work, evaluate timeliness of project goals, and take remedial actions if necessary.
