Volcano plot

Application: Volcano plots is usually used as a demonstration to the changes of gene expression from two groups. Each plot in the graph represents one gene.

          We take Means of qPCR from each group.
                    expression of gene X in B
          FC= ---------------------------------------
                    expression of gene X in A
          Using log2FC as X axis to show the change happened after treatment.

X>0, gene X up-regulated in B compared to A
X<0, gene X down-regulated in B compared to A
X near 0, there is no significant change.

Why don’t we use raw P-value data?

          Because P-value is between -1 ~ 1, all the interested data will crowd in the middle.
