一、句子成分分析

1. On the downside, the data also reveals failures in public health that have cause surges in some illnesses.
   that引导定语从句修饰failures；that=failures, 在从句中做主语

2. Those elderly people who were able to retain a sense of independence were more likely to stay healthy in old age.
   who 引导定语从句，who = people

3. Hence, the calendars that were developed at the lower latitudes were influenced more by the luna cycle than by the solar year.
   that = calendars 定语从句中做主语

4. In more northern climes, however, where sensonal agriculture was practised, the solar year became more crutial.
   where 关系副词，引导定语从句，where = in these climes 在从句种做状语

5. One of the first water clocks was a basin with a small hole near the bottom through which the water dripped out.
   which = through the small hole

1. 定语从句翻译

1. 有经济困难的人可能很难负担得起治疗。
   Those who are experiencing financial difficulties might find it hard to afford treatement.

2. 公司搬到劳动低廉的国家有优点也有缺点。
   Moving companies to countries where labor is cheap will have benifits and drawbacks.

3. 很多年轻人对某些产品的广告乐在其中，因为这些产品由有魅力的成功人士代言。
   A large number of young people enjoy adverts for specific products, which are endorsed by glamorous successful people.

4. 乘坐交通工具能减少导致全球变暖的碳排放。
   Taking public transport can reduce carbon emissions which cause global warming.

5. 受过高等教育的人数在增加
   The number of people who have received a university education is on the increase.

2. 状语从句翻译

6. 人们可以在遇到危险时用枪支自卫
   People can use gun for self defence when they are in danger.

7. 学生只要学习不同科目，就能够发展更多技能
   Students can develop more skills, as long as they study different subjects.

8. 当人们没有认可的资质时，找工作就变得困难
   It would be difficult for people to seek employment when they do not have recognizable qualifications.

9. 一些人厌倦了做重复的工作，因此尝试转行
   Some individuals are tired of doing repetitive jobs, so they try to make a career change.

10. 现代社会很多家庭很少一起吃饭，因为家庭以外有更多的活动选择，有来自现代科技频繁的信息轰炸
    Many families in modern society rarely eat meals together, because there are more choices of activities outside of home and a constant bombardment of information from modern technology.
