汉译英早操练（八）

        hello大家好，周一了有没有元气满满？没有就需要来点儿刺激的，跟我一起操练起来。今天这段有点儿长，不过没关系，周一不能怕困难，不然周二怎么混？

         回顾过去一年，多重困难挑战交织叠加，我国经济波浪式发展、曲折式前进，成绩来之不 易。从国际看，世界经济复苏乏力，地缘政治冲突加剧，保护主义、单边主义上升，外部
环境对我国发展的不利影响持续加大。从国内看，经历三年新冠疫情冲击，经济恢复发展
本身有不少难题，长期积累的深层次矛盾加速显现，很多新情况新问题又接踵而至。外需
下滑和内需不足碰头，周期性和结构性问题并存， 一些地方的房地产、地方债务、中小金
融机构等风险隐患凸显，部分地区遭受洪涝、台风、地震等严重自然灾害。在这种情况
下，政策抉择和工作推进面临的两难多难问题明显增加。经过全国上下共同努力，不仅实
现了全年预期发展目标，许多方面还出现积极向好变化。特别是我们深化了新时代做好经
济工作的规律性认识，积累了克服重大困难的宝贵经验。实践充分表明，中国人民有勇气、
有智慧、有能力战胜任何艰难险阻，中国 发展必将长风破浪、未来可期！

         400来个字，真的可以算作小作文了。我们来看看政府工作报告如何将去年面临的种种困难浓缩成一段话的。

      话不多说了，let's go

        第一句

           回顾过去一年，多重困难挑战交织叠加，我国经济波浪式发展、曲折式前进，成绩来之不易。

        Looking back the past year, difficulties came at the same time. The Chinese economy developed in waves and it is not easy to gain today's results.

        从语法的角度只要有以下错误：

        1、回顾：look back on/at

        2、困难挑战==困难+挑战。你看只翻译difficult是不是以偏概全？

        2、困难叠加，曲折前进都没有翻译出来。（漏译）

        Looking back at 2023, we can see that as we faced an array of interwoven difficulties

and challenges, China's economy grew in a wave-like fashion amid twists and turns.

Indeed, our achievements did not come easily.

 interwoven [ˌɪntəˈwəʊvn]

adj.交织的，编织在一起的

The themes of love and loss are interwoven throughout the novel.

爱与失落的主题贯穿整部小说。

多重困难挑战交织叠加 an array of interwoven difficulties and challenges

我国经济波浪式发展、曲折式前进 = 中国经济在曲折当中波浪形的发展

曲折当中: amid twists and turns

        Our journey to success has been amid twists and turns, but we never gave up.
        我们通往成功的旅程充满了曲折，但我们从未放弃。

波浪形：in wave-like fashion

        The stock market rose and fell in wave-like fashion, keeping investors on edge.
        股市像波浪一样起伏，让投资者心神不宁。

所以官文用词准确，需要积累以上的表达才能正确翻译这句话。

第二句：

        从国际看，世界经济复苏乏力，地缘政治冲突加剧，保护主义、单边主义上升，外部

环境对我国发展的不利影响持续加大。

        Internationally, the world economy went through a sluggish recovery with a raging geographical conflicts and a raising protectionism and unilateralism, which gave China a side effect for our economic development. 

       来来来，找找茬，看看你能看到几个错误。

        1、raising-->rising 

        词汇辨析：

       “raising”是我们主动让某物升起来，而“rising”是某物自己升起来。

        2、give a side effect for 表达不符合习惯,是错误的表达。应该说sth have a side effect on sth.

which have a side effect on China's development.

        3、根据简明英语原则，可以将经济发展，直接写为发展，因为读者会自动脑补这部分内容

        economic development--> development

        Globally, the economic recovery was sluggish. Geopolitical conflicts became more

acute, protectionism and unilateralism were on the rise, and the external environment

exerted a more adverse impact on China’s development.

         这句译者是经过了一番处理。

首先是“世界经济复苏乏力” 变成了“世界经济恢复是乏力的”。所以才有了the economic recoverty was sluggish.

“外部环境对我国发展的不利影响持续加大”改写成了“外部环境对我国发展施加了更加负面的影响”，所以才有了 the external environment exerted a more adverse impact on China's development.

        另外译者采用了先总后分的原则。将总括作为单独一句，后面所有描述乏力的表现都写成了一个句子。后面描述乏力其实就包括了三个部分

【地缘政治冲突加剧】，

【保护主义、单边主义上升】，

【外部环境对我国发展的不利影响持续加大】

这个部分，译者将其拆成简单的小句子，组成了类似这样的结构

a is b, c is d, and e do sth. on sth.

平时我们也可以借鉴这样的表达结构，将三部分转变成一个整体。注意这个整体的逗号要使用正确。

        最后，我们再学习几个表达。

        冲突加剧的动词使用acute

        ... 上升 on the rise

        The company's profits are on the rise, thanks to a successful marketing campaign.
        由于成功的营销活动，公司的利润正在上升。

         对...施加了更加不良的影响 exert a more adverse impact on sth.

        Pollution exerts a more adverse impact on health.
        污染对健康产生了更大的不利影响。

第三句

        从国内看，经历三年新冠疫情冲击，经济恢复发展 本身有不少难题，长期积累的深层次矛盾加速显现，很多新情况新问题又接踵而至。

         Domestically, three year's covid-19 epidemic brought many difficulties , and deep contradictions accumulated in a long time appeared more quickly and new probelms came up one by one.

        1、three year's --> three years' 或者three-year 

        2、拼写错误 probelms --> problems 

        3、经济恢复发展==经济恢复+发展（漏译）

        4、come up是出现的意思，没有突然出现。意思上跟原文有点儿偏差。最好使用cropped up 这个词组有“突然出现”的意思，表示相对意外。    

        Domestically, owing to the impact of a three-year Covid-19 pandemic, many difficulties

facing our economic recovery and development had yet to be resolved. While deep-

seated, long-standing issues became more pronounced, many new developments and

problems emerged.

         官方译文当中，将这句话拆分成两个部分。第一句包括了前三个逗号的两部分含义，第二句包含了后面两个部分含义。也就是说将4拆分成了2+2。这样拆分的目的让句子结构更加简单，含义更加清晰。

        前两句，译者将【经历三年新冠疫情冲击】分析为原因，【经济恢复发展 本身有不少难题】表达为结果。符合逻辑。另外将【经济恢复发展 本身有不少难题】改写成了【经济恢复和发展过程当中面临的许多难题让未解决】。

       developments： 事态的进展、变化或新出现的情况

        long-standing  adj.长期存在的; 存在已久的

       deep-seated adj.深层的; 根深蒂固的; 牢固的

       pronounced adj.明显的，显著的; 决然的，断然的; 强硬的; 被说出来的

第四句：

        外需下滑和内需不足碰头，周期性和结构性问题并存， 一些地方的房地产、地方债务、中小金融机构等风险隐患凸显，部分地区遭受洪涝、台风、地震等严重自然灾害。

        External and internal demand dropped in the same time, both periodic problems and structure probelms existed. The risks existed in real estates in some regions, local debt, some middle or small financial structures and so on were still prominent. Serious nature disasters like flood, typhoon and earthquick hit same areas.

       一大波问题来袭，你抓到他们了没？

        

        1、搭配异常  in the same time--> at the same time，nature disasters-->natural disasters

        2、房地产行业不要用复数  real estates --> real estate

        3、结构问题表达错误structure problems --> structural issues

        词汇辨析：

        “structure problems”通常指的是结构方面遇到的具体问题或挑战，需要解决；

        而“structural issues”则更多指向结构本身存在的根本性问题或缺陷，可能需要更深层次的调整或改革。

        简而言之，前者更具体，后者更根本。

        4、拼写错误 earthquick -->earthquake

        5、金融机构 financial structures-->financial institutions

        词汇辨析

        金融结构（ financial structures）是市场架构与组成，

        金融机构（financial institutions）是市场中的业务主体，共同支撑现代金融体系。

        A drop in external demand coincided with a lack of domestic demand, and both cyclical and structural issues arose. Risks and potential dangers in real estate, local government debt, and small and medium financial institutions were acute in some areas. Some places were hit hard by natural disasters, such as floods,typhoons, and earthquakes.

        这句话包括了四个意思【内外需求不足】+【各种问题并存】+【风险突出】+【自然灾害频出】。

        译者把前两个合并到了一起，后面两个分别成句。这样主要是因为后面两个的每一个都包括了很多“枝叶”，不方便捏在一起。

        【外需下滑】和【内需不足】在意思上有很大的不同。所以这两个用了两个动词来精确表达。下滑用了drop，不足用了lack.

        a drop in sth.表示某事下滑了

        a lack of sth.表示某事匮乏了

        adj.循环的; 周期的; 环状的

        中小金融机构： small and mdeium financial institutions

        你有没有注意到先说了之“小”再说“中”。

第五句：

        在这种情况下，政策抉择和工作推进面临的两难多难问题明显增加。

        In such circumstances, the Chinese government faced delimma problems and many difficulties when it came to choice and work advancement.

         1、拼写错误：delimma-->dilemmas

        2、come to中to是介词，所以后面需要改成动名词 when it came to choicing and work advancement 。根据简明英语原则工作推进这样的表达尽量改成动名词形式advancing work

        Under these circumstances, we faced considerably more dilemmas in making policy decisions and doing our work.

        政策抉择：policy decisions

第六句：

        经过全国上下共同努力，不仅实现了全年预期发展目标，许多方面还出现积极向好变化。

        With the joint efforts, we not only realize the expected annual development goal, but also see good changes in many aspects.

        1、时态错误，过去时 realized ,saw

        2、预期发展目标==发展目标。不要画蛇添足

        However, thanks to the concerted efforts of the entire nation, we accomplished the year’s development goals and embraced positive changes on many fronts.

         concerted adj.联合的，同心协力的; 竭力的

        积极向好变化: positive changes on many fronts

        词汇辨析：

        on many fronts

        多个领域的进展或挑战。

         in many aspects

        侧重于对某个事物的多方面评价或描述。

第六句：

特别是我们深化了新时代做好经济工作的规律性认识，积累了克服重大困难的宝贵经验。

        Our realization to regularity of economic work ran deep and much experience for huge difficulties was accumulated.

        1、搭配错误：realization to -->realization of sth.

        2、run deep 表示的是感情更深，用在认识深刻上不合适

        3、漏译：“特别是”，“新时代”

        In particular, we acquired a deeper understanding of the laws governing economic work in the new era and gained valuable experience in overcoming major difficulties.

        官方译文重新组织了结构，用人物代词表示主语，后面就是抓出主语的合适动词，平铺两层含义即可。

        我们获得了【更加深入的理解新时代经济工作规律的认识】，并且还【获得了克服重大困难的宝贵经验】

克服重大困难 overcoming major difficulties

获得宝贵经验 gain valuable experience

经济工作的规律 laws governing economic work

重大困难：major difficulties

第七句：

        实践充分表明中国人民有勇气、有智慧、有能力战胜任何艰难险阻，中国发展必将长风破浪、未来可期！

        Practice proves that the Chinese people have the courage, talent and power to overcome any difficulties. China must have brillent future.        

        主要问题在漏译：乘风破浪  

        All this demonstrates  the Chinese people have the courage, vision, and strength to meet any challenge and overcome any obstacle. There is no doubt that in pursuing development, China will continue to surge ahead, cleave mighty waves, and advance toward a great future.

        这句译者将其拆分成两个部分。第一个句包括两个含义，第二句虽然只包含一个意思，但是乘风破浪展开来讲会增加句子的饱和度。

        到了总结陈词的一句话，时态变成了一般现在时，需要我们注意这一点。

        1、避免字对字翻译，联系上下文，例如：

        实践充分表明：All this demonstrates

        2、智慧：vision（远见卓识）

        3、有能力：strength (毅力)

        4、【战胜任何艰难险阻】改成了【遇到问题 meet any challenges】+【解决困难 overcome any obstacle】

        5、官文采用了增译手法，添加了【in pursuing development】

       6、长风破浪、未来可期=【向前冲】+【劈开巨浪】+【向伟大的未来迈进】

        surge ahead, cleave mighty waves, and advance toward a great future

        cleave mighty waves  在英文中通常被用来赞美那些具有坚韧不拔、敢于挑战困难的人或事物。
